What happens when tissues are damaged?
When an injury occurs tissues become damaged and we will see a number of things occur depending on the extent of the injury.
First off the cells become damaged. when the cells become damaged the body releases a variety of hormones, but specifically release histamine and kinins. Once these have been released by the body three things happen. 1. blood Vessels dilate 2. capillaries become leaky 3. Neutrophils and macrophages react When the blood vessels dilate we begin to see redness and heat as a result of increased blood flow to the area in question. as a result the oxygen and nutrients being supplied to that area increases. this allows the metabolic rate of the cells to increase and speed healing. when the CAPILLARIES become leaky we will see edema begin to occur. as a result we will observe pain and swelling in the area and depending on the location JOINT limitations may occur. We also see proteins begin to clot and form a fibrin barrier in an attempt to stop bleeding and wall off and protect the affected area from further injury or infection. Neutrophils and macrophages are like little pacmans that work to clear the area of dead cellular debris, foreign bodies and harmful pathogens. As result of all of these processes OCCURRING the site heals and a scar will form. Not all scars will be visible, however there will be underlying tissue restrictions as a result that may influence the rest of the body as time progresses. |
"I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO HANDLE THIS WHEN I GOT HOME, A FRIEND HAD THE ESCRATCHES AND WE USED STEP 2 ON THE WOUND. IN ONE WEEK, I AM THRILLED WITH THE RESULTS AND I HARDLY USED ANY PRODUCT! I KEEP THIS ON HAND IN THE BARN AND TRAILER, ITS A RELIEF TO HAVE AVAILABLE AND MY COLT NEVER EVEN FLINCHED THROUGH ANY OF THE TREATMENT."
